Auto-Install

Post by trustthewhiterabbit on Wed May 09, 2012 8:59 am

Hi

I like your product and am looking at using it for a number of users who will be primarily using owa as their email client. I wish to be able to implement this silently and using a script with the aim that the user should have no noticeable events other than the new icon in the system tray. We are looking at the most recent version. I have a few questions:

1: Install - I assume that the install process is just the same as copying the owatray localappdata folder/files to a new machine? (It won't give me an uninstaller i guess that is the only difference?)

2: I can edit the scenario.xml file and get the settings I require however in that file there is an entry for EncryptedPassword. This is linked to my machine/account. If I try and remove this value (so it can auto pre-populate itself if required I get .Net errors. How can I create a pre-populated scenario.xml file for my users that I can drop into the relevant folder before starting the process which does not crash the program?

3: When the program starts the main windows shows. Is there a way to start the program and it just run - showing icon in the system tray without any other screen display?

4: Is there any documentation that explains all the option switches in the config file? Are there any option switches we can use in the install procedure?

Many thanks for any help you can give me.

Andrew

1. Yes
2. I have been meaning to fix this issue;
should be in the next version
3. Again, I can probably add an 'AlwaysHide' option quite easily
4. No, not yet. The only option in the installer is /S which means Silent Install

Hi there, sorry to jump on this thread, but I was wondering how you can get the silent install to work?
When I run the exe with the /s in windows 7 it still pops up the installation window.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening and just install it completely silently?

Excellent app <img src=" title="Smile" />

Cheers,
Ben

I have now managed to install the application silently and configure the settings by using the scenario.xml file, however having set the application to auto login, it doesn't do this when you run the application.
Only when you have pressed start will it then log you in automatically in future.
It looks like this is due o some additional settings being created here:
C:\Users\uname\AppData\Local\The_Drunken_Bakery

Is there any way to ensure that the application runs and logs in straight away using the settings in scenario.xml rather than requiring the user to click on "
Start"
for the first time?

Hi, yes, I will have to make a small change to enable this feature. Let me look into this to see if the change is practical.

Actually, having just looked at the code and run a quick test I'm not seeing a problem with this feature.

Auto-login is susceptible to timing issues the first time IE loads as it takes quite a while to page into memory and so doesn't always work. It generally works OK from that point on. This may be what you are seeing.

Could you try waiting until IE starts up, close it down then try double-clicking the tray icon again.
